Biometrics are unique physical or behavioral characteristics of an individual which can be
measured and thus compared. Various types of biometrics include fingerprints, iris recognition,
voiceprints (speaker verification), facial recognition, and hand geometry.

Because biometrics are bound to an individual, they can't be shared, lost, stolen or forgotten,
meaning they give the highest level of security available and can be used in place of sharing
personal data such as checking or credit card account numbers with store clerks.

To enroll, go to a participating BioPay location and give the clerk your driver's license or
other ID to verify your identity.
At the same time, your index fingers and personal check are scanned. Enter your BioPay number
(a 10-digit unique number, typically a phone number) and enrollment is complete.
« Back
This is a non-secure 10-digit number you chose, which is used in conjunction with your finger scan, to verify the match. This is not a PIN or password. We recommend choosing a number that is easy to remember like your telephone number.

BioPay stores your checking account data, information from your driver's license, a template and image of the finger scans and the BioPay number. BioPay will also store the loyalty card number if applicable. This information is securely stored at BioPay headquarters in Herndon, Virginia.

No. The information linked to your checking account with BioPay is different. BioPay associates
your unique biometric information with your checking account, while VISA and Mastercard check cards
associate a less secure card number to your checking account. The two processes are not
interchangeable.

When you enroll in BioPay, your finger is scanned. During the scanning process, the finger is
assigned a number corresponding to random points on the finger. It is the number, not the scan,
that is saved in the system, and used as a form of payment at participating merchants. So, each
time a customer uses their finger to make a purchase, BioPay system is comparing the algorithm,
as well as your BioPay Number, to verify the match and authorize a secure debit from that checking
account.
« Back
Making purchases with BioPay is easy. Simply enter your unique BioPay Number and place
your finger on the scanning device to confirm the purchase amount. Funds are securely transferred
electronically within 2 to 4 days from the enrolled checking account to the merchant and your finger
acts like your signature for transaction authorization.
« Back
When your finger is scanned, it is assigned a number corresponding to random points on the finger. It is the number, not the scan, that is used to identify you when you make a payment. Each time you use your finger to make a purchase, the BioPay system compares the points, as well as your BioPay Number, to verify the match and authorize a secure debit from that checking account.
« Back
During a purchase transaction, BioPay sends down your finger template (an algorithm or number created from various points on your fingerprint) and confirmation that you are a BioPay member in good standing. When transaction is approved the purchase amount and your BioPay number are transmitted back to BioPay.
« Back
If your checking account is open and contains funds to cover the transaction amount, the payment
will occur. If your payment is returned due to lack of funds, it will be re-submitted, and a service
charge will be debited to your account to cover the costs of processing the returned payment.

We do not sell or share personal information with any outside companies. Within BioPay, only
authorized employees are permitted to access customer information and are subject to strict
limitations and guidelines in the handling of that information. When your information reaches
BioPay, it resides on a server that is heavily guarded both physically and electronically. Our
servers sit behind an electronic firewall and are not directly connected to the Internet, so your
private information is available only to authorized computers.

No. Each person must have a unique BioPay number.
« Back
Yes. Two or more people can share a checking account as long as each individual has their own
unique 10-digit BioPay number.
« Back
During enrollment, both of your index fingers are enrolled. That way, if you have a cut you can
easily make a purchase with the other enrolled finger.
